New Pattern Release – the Basket of Blossoms Shawl

The Basket of Blossoms Shawl pattern is now live on Ravelry, Payhip, and Etsy.

I was inspired by the rosy color of this yarn, in a colorway aptly named Phlox, to design something for springtime. I always like to have a little cowl or shawl to wrap around my neck on chilly spring mornings, and this shawlette is the perfect size to keep with you. And both the cable and texture stitch patterns are completely reversible, so there is no wrong side to show.

The asymetrical triangle shape grows from the tip out and makes customizing the size easy. It’s also great for using up all of your precious yarn. Use one 200 yard skein to make a kerchief-style shawl that looks great styled with a shawl pin or cuff, as shown. Or knit more repeats and make a larger shawl to wrap around your shoulders.

Let’s Talk About Yarn Choice

I used a 100% Finn wool from Woodsong Farm for this shawl, which gives the pattern a teeny bit of drape and sheen while still having great stitch definition. If you use a longwool like Bluefaced Leicester or Romney, or a blend, you’ll get a shawl with some drape; if you use a wool like Merino or Rambouillet, your shawl will be loftier and have more memory, i.e. less drape – it’ll be like a hug around your neck. All of these are great options; it depends on your personal preference. I’ll be posting some of my testers’ projects on my Instagram so you can see the different yarns they used.
